How IP location is worked out
There is no GPS in an IP address. Location comes from commercial databases that estimate where a block of addresses is used, by combining several imperfect signals: registry records showing which organisation holds the block, latency measurements between servers of known position, and corrections submitted by network operators and users.
The result is a good guess with wide error bars. Country is almost always right. City is right more often than not on fixed-line connections in dense areas, and unreliable everywhere else.
How accurate is it really?

If a service insists you are in a city you have never visited, this is why. It is not a fault you can fix from your end, and it is not evidence that anything has been compromised.
What tracing an IP cannot do
It cannot give you a street address, a name, or the identity of a person. Those details exist only in your internet provider's subscriber records, which are released to law enforcement under legal process and not to the public.
If a website or a "tracer" tool claims it can show someone's home address from an IP address, it is either guessing at the city or selling you something that does not work.
Legitimate uses are plentiful: verifying where a suspicious login came from, understanding server log traffic, checking which CDN edge is serving a site, confirming a VPN exit node, or investigating spam. All of those work at the country and network level, which is exactly where the data is strong.
Reporting a wrong location
Geolocation databases accept corrections, mostly from network operators. If your business is consistently mislocated, the fix comes from your ISP updating the registry record for the block — not from anything you can change on your router. Individuals generally have to live with it.
